Farewell to Geoff.
Geoff came to live amongst us many years ago,
And became part of our community as all of you will know.
He read at mass on Sunday, at which he did excel,
Because Geoff was a perfectionist and always did things well.
When our Comhaltas Branch was formed, officers we had to find,
And when it came to Chairman, Geoff was the one we had in mind.
WHY, you well may wonder because Geoff didn’t play or sing.
But we knew of the many other qualities that Geoff would surely bring.
And so he led our branch efficiently until this very day
He will be a hard act to follow that’s all I have to say.
Geoff decided two years ago, that as he was head of our little branch,
He’d attend the Teach Ceoil on Wednesday night and learn how to dance.
Now Breda thought this funny and she said when we would meet,
“I don’t know why he is doing it, sure My Geoffrey has two left feet”
Although Geoff said he hadn’t got a note, I knew that he could sing,
So I taught him Sean South and the wearing of the Green
I taught him other Rebel songs and the history that they tell
But the song Geoff loved most to sing was The Town I loved so well.
We spent many a happy time together, Breda , Geoff and I
Memories I will always cherish of lovely days gone by,
So Geoffrey , we take you now and lay you down to rest,
With Breda in Shanakyle, Our friend Geoff, the greatest and the Best.
